Exchange Theatre presents Noor, a true story of Liberté, a new devised family show about an inspiring historical heroine: Noor-un-Nisa Inayat Khan. In WW2, she was a secret agent and a super heroin undercover: the first female radio operator to be sent from London to serve the French Resistance in Paris.
The story, like a cluedo for the whole family, explores the many layers of her heroism and brings to the public eye the life of an extraordinary French-British-Indian Muslim woman, who found the courage to die fighting against narrow-minded fascism, with the strength and wisdom rooted in her own fascinating multiple identity. Investigating through many characters and perspectives how her story was told by India, France or the Uk, the company brings together a diverse cast and several languages in the world premiere of a brand new multimedia play about history and identity. The show has been developed by Nadia Nadif, the RAF Museum and Exchange Theatre. This is the world premiere of a brand new devised play, just a couple of weeks after an artist development programme residency at ArtsDepot supported by Arts Council England and Unity Theatre Trust and another research period at Out of Joint.
Exchange Theatre was founded in the ideal of a popular theatre and culture for all, their work is based on diversity at its core and made for diverse people, crossing class, cultural and geographical borders.
They now translate and present classics simultaneously in French and English with bilingual artists or create new works centered around the idea of fluid identities and multilingualism. They produce an annual Festival where they bring the local and french communities together around cultural events.
